Our critics say we are a haven for people who cannot make up their minds; a decompression chamber for those who are traveling from orthodoxy to the golf course. Or as one wit has written, “a Unitarian Universalist is a person who walks the line between confusion and indecision.  Yet the critics are mistaken. It is difficult for the outsider who comes from a conventional church or synagogue background to understand our approach to religion.  Confused by the atmosphere of freedom they often assume there is little or no substance of faith to be found in Unitarian Universalism.
