What To Expect

Dear Website Visitor,

Welcome to the Umpqua UU church website. We are so glad that you have visited us today.

We are a church of diversity, intellectual and spiritual stimulation with the basis of our philosophy being that every individual has the right and the responsibility to find their own truth and meaning in life. Our church then, serves as a place where you can discuss, hone and make more real for yourself that truth and meaning.

In order to create a safe place for you to discover and perfect your individual faith we are providing many venues that may give you the kind of jumping off point of your religious discovery. Please check the calendar in this website for classes, potlucks, Halloween parties, diverse Holiday presentations and so much more.

As a church that has its roots in the 1500’s reformation, we glean from Unitarian heroes who ended slavery in this country, opened hospitals for the mentally ill, began schools for people from all races and nationalities and walked with Martin Luther King and died in Selma, Alabama. From our Universalist roots we are reminded that ours is a religion that truly believes in universal salvation as people are encouraged to create, design and find their own unique definition of God, divinity, spirit, energy or the life force of all the world.

Today, our church has a part time minister, a director of religious education for our children and youth, a music director and an active choir, services every Sunday. with children and youth classes at the same time. We boast of a 50 year liberal religious presence in the city of Roseburg, with our members and friends involved in many of the civic and voluntary associations of this city.

I hope the fact that you are now reading this website and this letter that you may be looking for a church home. If you are open to all faith systems, and looking for a loving, open and tolerant religious home, Umpqua Unitarian Universalist Church just may be for you. Come visit us and see.

See you in church,

Rev. Gary James
